Is there a consensus as to how the sump gasket should be fitted ? wet? dry ?

I don't know about anyone else, or if there is an official way, but I give it a thin stripe of red gasket sealer on both sides. Like the valve cover I find that they are prone to leaking otherwise.

Yep, same for me.
I use wynss instant gasket  for that but there are more suited.
