Your engine is little different from most these days. Head bolt replacement is expected as they stretch & can become long & weak. The head itself needs to be checked to see if it is flat /warped or cracked by pressure testing. No point in skimming if ok it just adds to the compression. I recon the water pump failed & leaked, the car was driven with no coolant & baked, this excessive heat has caused the head gasket to fail. If there is a diesel workshop in your area then it would best be done by them or maybe they can recommend someone. As long as the replacement parts are quality & not cheap chinese quality then all should be well.
