The edge terminals on my car are very wonkey and some are broken and i tried looking for those little jaw edge terminals but they ssem to be discontinued. I also chased down the French made one by JMI83 but as far as I could understand he stopped making them and seems to have sold the last of his stock just a few months ago. However I also believe someone else is continuing it and there's a similar board from Belgium? Or maybe those are from the same person. Long story short, I would like a new one, particularly one that does away with the old type of connectors. I know carjoy has them but I heard so many bad things about them from local guys at the club that I prefer not to support them and the ones from Simon seem to rely on the old edge terminals.
I also found this video but the websites at the end say "page not found" and I'm a bit hesitent towards mailing random e-mail addresses I see in a video with a question if I can buy something from them 😅 It's a bit too easy for anyone receiving that to say "sure send me money" if you know what I mean Smiley
Hope someone can help me find what I'm looking for.

I don't think Carjoy has a new board that also replaces the original plugs to the edges of the board.  So if you have poor or broken jaw terminals in those plugs, then you need something different.  Carjoy (and Simon Auto) have a new board that uses the new blade fuses rather than those old and poor continental plastic or ceramic fuses which are prone to be so bad but at a cost of 145 Euro plus tax.  Carjoy also has some new production of the old style board with the old continental fuses at a slightly cheaper price (125 Euro plus tax).  But all these new boards still use the existing plugs to the edges of the board.

What you need is one of the boards I modify to use a different plug and socket.  The socket is soldered to the board, so you have the best connection possible.  But you have to replace the four plugs with the matching plugs I supply.  That means you have to cut all the wires from the old plugs and fit them into the new plugs, which can then be connected to the modified board.

You also have a choice of fuse type.  I can leave the original style fuse holders and fuses, or I can change them to the better English fuse holders and glass fuses which make a much better positive contact.  I cannot fit the new blade fuse holders as they require a completely different circuit board layout because of their different (closer) contact spacing.  That is why I fit the glass fuses as the spacing is virtually the same as the original continental fuses.

See: http://www.matrasport.dk/forum/index.php/topic,3309.0.html

I can modify your board if it is good enough, or I can possibly supply another board at extra cost.  This will be either an old board that I can modify or it could be a new board, but that will increase the cost even more of course.

Send me some photos of your board, so I can see if it is good enough to modify.

Ah thanks for letting me know. I read this too late. I found my way to the French matra passion forum and from there I was redirected to the Belgian new production. They use the new blade fuses although I think the glass ones on the original board look best of all options. Perhaps one day I'll swap again.

Can you give us the link to that Belgian product here please, as I'd like to see it, as might other owners. However, without seeing it, I suspect that it still uses the original edge plugs and therefore still would have problems if the terminals in those plugs are broken, and not making a positive contact. Am I right or have they corrected for that too?

Here is a photo of one of the original Murena boards, that I have modified with both new edge plugs and sockets that are soldered to the board, so the connections are really good; and this one also has the glass fuses replacing the original horrible continental fuses, for much better contact there too.

Certainly! It's more like yours actually. Very close to the original design.

Nice video and a nice solution, I think.

Jesper and I have been talking about making a layout for a board. Pro quality PCBs can be ordered in small quantities from PCBWAY or JLCPCB (I've used JLCPCB several times now).

Thanks for the video link, but that was made about 3 years ago.  Is it still made, and is it for sale?  Any idea approximately how much it costs?  We still don't know where we can find this modification if it is still available.  I did try searching for it, but could not find anything.  Did you find it and buy one?

I agree it looks good, and will cure the problems of broken terminals in the edge plugs, but having all the connections separately makes it more tedious when disconnecting and reconnecting the board, with possible circuit mistakes being made too, with incorrect connections.  And of course you need an entirely new circuit board.

The idea of my board was to re-use good existing boards and therefore save wastage.  The change from original type fuses to glass ones was also optional, and not necessarily required.

Yes that was also my concern (the video being a bit older). I have received Florent his contact details through a private message exchange on the matra passion forum with one of the people who helped design that board. I contacted him and got a repy the same or the next day. I believe he makes them to order through his company or the company he works for Elecflo in Belgium. I paid a little over €200 because I asked for a B2B invoice. (I use the Murena as a company car) For private individuals the price is a little lower.

I do like your approach and I'm all for reducing waste. There's still a bunch of used ones for sale on leboncoin that look in good condition. Here's the link if anyone is interested: https://www.leboncoin.fr/ad/equipement_auto/2340861756
I heard it's a bit hard to use that website for non-french people though. Possibly due to registration address requirements but I haven't tried signing up personally.

OK, thanks for your reply Grapes.  That clears things up now, if they are only made to order.  In a similar way, I would only do those modified boards to order now, although I do usually have one already converted so the turn around can be quite quick.

I find sales of all the parts I usually kept, have slowed quite a bit these last couple of years, with the cars now being over 40 years old and with limited numbers on the road it's not surprising really.  Consequently I don't hold that much stock any more as it ties up a lot of value and requires storage, so making things to order is more sensible for small concerns like mine.

Yep that makes perfect sense. I just received the latest edition of the Simcarama magazine from the Dutch Simca club and it happened to have a list that showed that there's 303 registered at the Dutch vehicle authority (of which only 35 are with club members)

I just received the board and it looks great!

Took me a while. I installed it two weeks ago or something and then I had to reinstall the dizzy which was a bit of a challenge as finding TDC was not easy for me (in between I adjusted the valves which were all as wide as barn doors) but I had some help and today I finally had the murena alive again... for a minute or so... then it stalled again, fired up again with a bit more trouble and now it's dead again -.-
Still the fuse plate seems to have done wonders as at least I had spark again and that was what initially stranded it. More adventures soon. I hope to have it running before the weekend (fingers crossed)

If the valve clearances were really large as you state, then you should look very carefully at the cam lobes as it suggests they are badly worn and any that are will keep wearing quickly as the surfaces are worn passed the case hardening.  Look for ridges, and the edges being higher as the rocker arms do not rub that area, (as on this example, on the right lobe here) so the edges of the cams will still have the original shape. Also look how bad the pitting is on the lobe on the left on this example.

It is only by excessive wear you get large valve clearances, so I'm pretty sure your cam will be badly worn, and the pads of the rocker arms too.  And all the metal material that has worn off, will have got into the oil and create more wear everywhere.  It suggests this engine will need a full overhaul.  Resetting the clearances will not help much, especially over time.  The longer you run the engine in this state, the worse will be the internal damage, and the more the overhaul will cost.

Oh my, that's quite alarming! It's supposed to be a very low mileage car but wear is wear. The discrepancies were around .1 and .2 off (some less if I remember correctly) from what they were supposed to be in the manual and I don't reckon they have ever been set by the previous owner though but I also don't know if that's allarmingly off or not. Regardless I will have to start putting some extra funds aside and see if I can befriend someone who's willing and has the time and knowledge to pull the engine apart.

Oh and I have the car running again but only on a temporary fix. I'm currently running a wire directly from the fuseplate to the coil as I didn't want to spend the summer not driving the Murena. A local fellow Murena owner (Murowner?) told me the engine bay loom is often the culprit. I guess this is the one? https://www.simon-auto-shop.de/08032
