Title: Replacing a speedo cable
Post by: davidewanprice on March 28, 2010, 12:27:05 am
Hi there, I'm trying to replace a speedo cable. I have detached it at the dashboard however am not sure how to detach it from the plate at the hub, I've undone the two bolts which fasten the plate in place as the cable seems stuck in this plate, oh and I have removed the clip. Is it just a case that maybe there's some corrosion fusing the cable in place or is there something else I need to do?

I think it must be corroded in place.  When I replaced mine. I just had to take off the plate and the clip.

This can be very coroded.
After you have removed the bolt, it can be pulled out.
But if it very stucked in place, you have to drill it out.

I have drilled one out on a Bagheera myself.

it can be stuck, but with a hamer you can force it out of the plate. i did it some months ago on my murena, and some weeks ago on the murena i have dismantled.

I remember having a problem with my Bagheera speedo cable.  The end snapped off in the hub.  It was a real pain to remove!

Hi!
It sounds like itīs a common problem  :(

My speedometer-cabel is also broken in/at the hub :(  It has been broken since before I bought my Bagheera.
The former owner had weldet some speedometer-drive from an other type of car, on top of the original cabel-drive/connection at the hub, and I have just now because of this thread, discovered that it wasīnt just the original connection that had been broken and then weldet on again. but a different one.

Now I have cut the weldet thing off..  and it looks like this.

A 4mm long piece of what I think was the old speedometer kabel fell out, when I cut the weldet thing off.
