Title: Grand Espace 2001 2.0 16v (F4R) anti-pollution light is dead
Post by: TuomoL on April 08, 2009, 03:35:35 pm
Hello,

I have following problem with my 2001 Espace. On a yearly inspection inspector noticed, that "anti-pollution monitor light" doesn't work when power is turned on. You know - that small engine image on a dashboard that should light on for couple of seconds. Because this light is not working, my car didn't pass the yearly inspection. However, inspector did get all necessary information they want to check from OBD, but this little light is the problem.

I got my car to service today. No fault code found. Everything else worked fine on a dashboard when tested with test-software, but not this engine light.

Light bulb is ok, cables and connectors have been checked and everything seems to be ok there also.

Do you know if this might be somekind of software problem?

I always thought that this warning light is disabled on the Espace JE and is instead a part of the Multi information display (temp, clock etc window), so if any fault is detected regarding OBD (and other issues) this window shows a graphical big orange fault lamp identical to "an ordinary" engine fault lamp. The technical note from Renault concerning Espace JE with F4R engines also states that the MIL lamp is not active on this Espace.... see attached note (full document is found on the vault).

I'm sure someone driving a 2.0 16v can confirm or correct this if i'm wrong.....

Thank you. This is just like I thought. Now I need to contact Renault to get my self same information in finnish. One problem is, that Espace JE has never been in official import program to Finland, and that's why everything is so damn difficult in here.

With the suited diagnostic equippment (Renault CLIP or Renault NXR on this one) you can test the OBD light by entering the BII unit or the engine injection computer and then go to command mode (if i remember correct) - i bet the Multi information display will show the engine fault symbol.
