Over the past few days I entered a new phase of Murena ownership, I now have two! Looking over this second car I noticed a few differences in build between mine and this new one, I was wondering just how many changed took place on the standard car? Has anyone else noticed these or any other changes?
1. Gearbox, one has push down reverse, the other doesn’t
Early cars (1980/81) had this detent and split gear lever for reverse, but all later cars had a solid lever and only the stronger spring loading in the gearbox for reverse.
2. Choke knob is located on other side (This I knew of already)
Choke on right is Belgian spec. car. All others on left.
3. Door cards on one car have cushioned area to lean your elbows on when the windows are down.
Not sure exactly what you mean here, and would have to see some photos, but trimming varies between early and late and 1.6 and 2.2 models.
4. Door cards also differ slightly in shape around the door handle.
5. Rear boot stoppers, one car has one (one central), the other 2
See above!
I’d be interested (sad I know) to know of other changes that were made over the years.
If you check the parts manual carefully, you can see all the differences, since it has to list them! I know of plenty but I'm not going to list them all here. :-)
The German laws required certain differences, such as the allow wheels, and rear light wiring. The German spec. alloys are pressure die-cast not gravity die-cast which are more prone to leaks, and to allow you to know know which is which they changed the fins around the wheels in shape.
