Title: rear rattle almost solved
Post by: Oskar on September 12, 2008, 09:42:01 am
Ive got a hard and loud rattle and banging noise from the rear end when going over pits and holes.
a real mechanical noise, slam!
But when braking just enough for the caliper to engage it wanish.
After a quick look at the rearbrakes wich is overhauled they seem to have a big gap between the caliper and the slidinghouse.
hard to explain but inbetween there are 2 metallpieces that should fit more tight. so the caliper is very loose on the house :(
I put coppergrease on but with no improvment. >:(
what to do??  :)

THAT sounds like you just need to fit the small springs that keep the pads in place within the caliper.

however,
Quote
big gap between the caliper and the slidinghouse
that sounds more like one (or both) of the small wedges have not been fitted ?

You can see bot the anti-rattle spring and the lower wedge shaped piece on the picture Oetker posted in this thread:

I forgot to say that the wedges are there but it seems they are to small and maybe that gap cousing the rattle?

It sounds like you have the caliper housing the wrong side of the frame springs.  Easy to do.  Just remove them again, and fit the housing against the springs top and bottom and you should have to push the caliper in against the springs to get the wedges in place.  The springs will keep the housing tight on the wedges.
