Has anyone come across a fault code reader suitable for a JE0 Espace?
There are plenty advertised as being "universal" but I haven't found one that specifically mentions Renault as being one of the makes so wondering if anyone had come across one that is known to work with the Espace
I know that Tom (renualtbiler) came across one that seemed to be ideal for anyone regularly needing a high end auto diagnostic system but I'm looking for just a basic code reader/scanner to avoid the £117.50 standard charge from a Renault dealer to hook it up before they even lay a spanner on it.

Hi Martin
I am using 'Vauxcheck' from Gendan. Although primarily for the vauxhall range it has a selection to deal with the Movano van which carries the same (similar) diesel engine as the Renault Espace 2.2Dci.
Works well, but only allows you to recover fault codes and reset the ecu, gendan are working to make live data avaliable soon.
I'm using a ELM327 interface.

Thanks John... I'll take a look at that, although probably worth holding off buying until the next generation.
Sorry, can't help with fault code P1882.... you'll maybe have to hope that Roy drops in to the forum. Being a Renault Trained Engineer he would know and as you are no doubt already aware DTC's within that range are manufacturer specific.

Next week perhaps, as he's busy this week.

If you are wondering about what the P1882 code is:
P1882: Engine coolant level switch circuit short to ground

NO NO NO
P1882 (Renault - NOT OBD Generic) is as follows:
P1882 Stored Multiple definitions available:
Rail pressure monitoring leakage
Rail pressure monitoring deviation
Rail pressure monitoring Malfunction
Rail pressure monitoring Maximum pressure too high
Rail pressure monitoring Minimum pressure too low
whic is P0191 generic OBD. P1882 generic OBD is the short to ground one.

I c - why make unique and standarized P codes ;D

Renault didn't comply with ODB standards until 2004 on their diesel vehicles.

They've always been very bad in this respect! The story I've heard is that they did claim compliance, but there was "a few bugs" in the implementation, so it actually didn't work! ::)
... very annoying! >:(
