Any recommendations ?
-
Haven't used it myself but here is an option that sounds pretty good.
http://www.frost.co.uk/item_Detail.asp?productID=9688&frostProductName=Eastwood Brake Grey (368gr) &catID=14&frostCat=Brakes&frostSubCat=&subCatID=
Frosts do a lot of good restoration supplies and have an Agent in quite a few European countries I see.

I've just used the red version on a pair of rear calipers I've just finished overhauling. Looks good, but I can't say yet how it will last, because I haven't fitted them.

Don't laugh.
Paint for rusty garden fences.
Still OK after 2 years.

It is very important to boil the calipers in water with soda.
It is to get the greace and dirt out of the iron.
The paint will stick better on the surface.

I am really impressed by that Pantser Lak Metal. :o
I have searched the manufacturer, but I don't see a place to order it. Where did you get yours and do you know of an online shop that carries it?
-
I did a search for it.
The dutch website.
www.rambo.nl
I doubt they deliver abroad.
There I found the manufacterer.
http://www.ppg.com/coatings/acemea/Pages/default.aspx#
They have a part where is a scandinavion sector, but clicking ends up to nothing.
I am afraid that it is difficult to find outside the Netherlands, but I think there are more firms that produce it.

By using the PPG, I did find a Danish representative. I have written them to find a local dealer.

Hey.. ask if there are any In Aalborg... mine are ready for paint in a few days :)
-
jag använde http://biltema.se/sv/Bygg/Farg-och-Fog/Farg-inomhus/Hammarlack/ vanlig hammarlack.
funkar utmärkt om man inte kör bana så bromsarna går väldigt varma :)

Hey.. ask if there are any In Aalborg... mine are ready for paint in a few days :)
They are located in Køge, syd for København. But the mail i sent them came back. The mailserver could not resolve the name. ??? I will try to find a phone number.
-
I'll go with some hammerit og similar for the time being :)
-
@ Jon.
I think the Rambo stuff is a kind of Hammerite.
If You can't find it and really want it I can send, but I pay around €14.- a can, and shipping pretty is expensive.
-
@Jon : I was going to get this :
http://www.cargizmo.dk/catalog/kaliper-laksaet-black-p-170.html?osCsid=fb0a5762c998efb8b938bff0594a9c97
... but was too expensive considering that I have most of the stuff in the kit all ready. I think ordinary Hammerit will do just fine as long as you prep the metal thoroughly.
To that end I have sandblasted my calibers, and soaked them in "evapo-rust" a couple of days. Finally I'm prepping them with this stuff :

That ought to do the trick. :)

I de-rusted the calipers as much as possible then I boiled it with soda.
I made it wet and treated it with fosfor acid a few times.
Then some light sanding and sprayed the calipers 3x with 20 min pause.
The result is very good as seen on the pics.

I tested it in Grey and in black, and made my choice in grey metal.

The cat is guarding my old calipers.
They will be prepared for spare

Since I own a powder-coating gun and oven every part of my car has to undergo powdercoating. :) I did my callipers in chrome with mirror red.

I did a set of callipers some time ago for someone else in Black

It is possible to paint them while on the car if you degrease very very good. Hammerite paint seems to work well if you decidce to use this method.

Did you mean 'caustic soda' also known as sodium hydroxide (NaOH)
-
No, I mean the cristals that are used for housekeeping. it's less agressive.
The main idea was that boiling with water and soda loosen the grease.
Grease is lighter then water and it will float on the water.
That's the point

Ah, you're thinking of washing soda(known as krystall soda in Scandinavia), known also as Sodium carbonate or Na2CO3.

Must buy a bottle tomorrow and try....

Since my new Avantime has brand new 8 year old callipers I decided to paint them now they are still reletively new. Usually I would disassemble them and powdercoat them in my powdercoating-oven, but I lack the time to do it that way so instead I degrease them thoroughly and use Hammerite to paint them.

This is how a calliper looks like after 8 years and 1000 km's.

After cleaning, degreasing and painting they look like this.

I decided to clean the rim and apply a sealant to protect it in the future. Although these rims will be replaced next year for other ones.

Looks good again now.
