Title: 1.6 carb jets
Post by: andyowl on July 04, 2012, 09:35:45 pm
I am having a struggle with a (single) 1.4 Bagheera carb fitted onto my new Wade Supercharger. I cannot get the engine to run below 2,000 r/m and the choke is 50% on at that time.

Reduce the choke below 50% and the engine slows down and dies. I have opened the idle jet adjusting screw to the point where it is almost falling out and it did allow the engine to slow down from the 3,000r/m speed which was the slowest I could get it to run when I started.

Over the month since it last ran I have improved the gaskets to the point where I can be reasonably confident that there are no inward air leaks. The manifold gauge is showing about 50% vacuum at 2,000 r/m.

Could somebody tell me the jets used by the 1.6 Murena engine please? Maybe I need bigger main jets??

Thanks.. Andy

A look at my 1.6 shows that it is idle 42 correction 175, main 150 and emulsion tube F46.  This seems to work very well.  It is slightly at odds with the Haynes Book of Lies though.  HBoL says that for the Alpine 'S' engine, it is idle 40-45 main 145+5 correction 165+15 and emulsion F54.  Hope this helps.

Thank you both for your quick replies. Very helpful!

I had forgotten that I had an old 1.6 Murena engine in the garage hidden behind another Bagheera and I have removed the carb this morning. It will be interesting to see the jets in there.

I had not realised that there are so many differences externally between the Bagheera and Murena carbs!

Thanks again.

Andy

Mine seems to be the middle one of that selection.  On reflection though, by blowing the engine you are effectively increasing its capacity, so surely you should be looking at much larger jets and possibly venturi as well.  Perhaps something more appropriate for 2.4 litres,  I can see why the supercharger boys prefer SUs.

I am seriously considering trying to refit the 2" SU I had on the Shorrock blower. Headroon may be a problem!

There are many more pictures to add but time is at a premium right now!
