I wonder if anyone knows for sure which boss kits will fit a Murena?
My steering wheel is quite rotten and needs replacing. I would like to get an original wheel for completeness but generally prefer a leather one rather than the foam. I also have to replace the gear lever top which is rotten too.
I found these on eBay and wondered if it was the same fit..

I read the old posts on this and think it might work, or be useful as a base for a replacement wheel. What has anyone else gone with?

Here is mine and OK

Thanks Oetker. Is it the right distance out or is the new wheel closer in?
-
It is very little closer to the dash and sometimes my nails touches the top of the dash when turning.
So I placed a 2 cm spacer and then the pinker-switch is a bit to far of, but that is getting used to.
There are not much choices :-\

I knew I had some pics.
Really need to organize so I can find when I need them.

Food for thought:
D-Type NOVA 330mm dia. in leather in picture. Not an original but a variation on the theme of one. Gives a bit more room above your legs.
I did have a similar shape Sparco fitted in black suede which was great, but it eventually became worn and shiny. See link below:
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/steering-wheels/sparco-353-steering-wheel-black-suede-330mm
P.S. If you zoom in you can see my matching leather gear knob and shape.

Is it just me, :D or doesn't your gear knob face the wrong way? ??? Others I have seen with that shape the point is facing forward to make sure your fingers don't slip off, i.e. when you have to shift quickly during a race.
-
Yes indeed correct. The gear lever was too far away the other way round when strapped in. So this was a compromise that suits me. Never had a problem.
-
Thanks all. I'm going to get a boss that gives me a choice of wheels. The six hole fit seems pretty standard to me.
Herman, thanks for the photos.
-
Thanks. Finally got one that is the perfect size and shape.
I need to learn how to resize images , so for now here is the link!

My Murena had an aftermarket wheel when I bought it: an Italvolanti Indianapolis Formel (365 mm).
Apart from being a tiny little bit too close to the top of the instrument binnacle, my main problem was that it was black!
This week I discovered the same wheel but in brown (brand new, still in the box) together with a matching (used) boss.
The boss has the code number 1603X
(http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/4654/bossjb.jpg)
The boss is black. I did consider painting it, but don't think it is too noticeable.
Old and new
(http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/4381/wheelsh.jpg)
I was able to simply unbolt the old one and put the new onee on the existing boss (also 1603X).
Now it looks much better – and feels lovely and new!

I may connect up the horn buttons (haven't yet) but the wirring is all there
(http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/4818/rearface.jpg)
So pleased to have found this...
and the black one will go very nicely in my Beta Spider
stock

(when I get the right boss)
I should perhaps point out that here in Switzerland, to qualify for "Veteran" status (with the numerous advantages that offers) cars can only have periood accessories, so a modern wheel is disqualified.

Today I made a order of a Personal Fitti 350 sude leather, + hub + spacer + Matra horn button. This setup will make the steeringwheel end up in the exact same position as the original. Have had the Fitti on some of my alfas and have always loved the grip on them. Did order from the seller on ebay that have the hub in the link above.

Is there anyone of you guys putting new steering wheels in your Murenas, Who have a brown original steering wheel with no cracks in the vinyl surface? And who want to part with it? ;D
-
^^^ I think you'll find that most brown original wheels get replaced because they have failed...
I wanted a stock wheel too and asked about getting an original brown one. I was told that the brown ones have most problems with deteriorating with age, so I doubt that many people will have good, old wheels...

I found one in northern Sealand at a guy who was selling a 2.2 S and didn't have the original steering wheel installed. The car was too far gone for me to buy and he didn't want to sell the steering wheel by itself. >:(
My plan "B" is to upholster the one I have with leather. When I do I will post photos of the proces. I am thinking of a way to lace it on the back side. We shall see. :D

I am considering having my original steering wheel covered with leather at this shop:

I have not taken any close shot of my steering wheel yet. If I take some, I will post them.
It looks quite good, covered with brown leather. The plastic center cap has not been covered yet. The colour of the leather is very close to the original, but you can see the difference between the cap and the wheel so it will be covered. I am thinking on an embroidered "murena" inscription on it...
Hans! Before you send your steerinng wheel, do not forget to check the clearance between the steering wheel and the plastic covers of the steering rod. Probably you have to cut some mm-s from the steering wheel, otherwise they will touch eachother after installation because of the leather thickness.
Btw. The upholsterer told me, that was one of the most difficult steering wheel shape, what he ever covered... :D
In the future I would like to buy a racing steering wheel as an alternative replacement. I am waiting for a good, cheap offer for a worn second hand one. There is some leather left what could be used for recovering. My favorite is Momo Corse 32cm dia...
Some weeks ago I saw one for about 23€, but I missed it... :(

Who did the leather work on your steering wheel and will he do another one. How much did he charge you?

...as a saddlemaker i can completely understand him :-)

Unfortunately I cannot tell you an exact price for the steering wheel, because it was part of the total recovery of the interior. The upholstery and the repainting was arranged by a guy who is the head of a car tuner team so I do not have the contact address of the upholsterer...
But I can recommend you a steering wheel expert not far from me. Here is the link:
http://www.fellserkft.hu/
If you can read German -or Hungarian :) - you can follow the whole process in a presentation. This is a well known (even abroad) small workshop specialized in steering wheels and gear knobs. Unfortunately the prices are not updated. I have already sent them an e-mail inquiring about prices and I will post the answer.

The new wheel has been fitted. I like it :)

Hi Oetker,
Do not you know the exact part number of this hub?
-
As far as I know it is Nardi number S6901
Best regards
-
Thanks.
I found the same number - S6901- but at Luisi. According to the Luisi catalog S6901 is ok for almost every Talbot.

Yes that is right but not the very old.
Anything around 1976 and up.
For older types there is a different hub.
That can fit to, but you need to make adjustments.
Best regards Herman

Original leather steering wheel for Murena!
or actually the original steering wheel covered with leather ;-)

as a saddlemaker i have to say: nice work
-
The work has been done professionaly by Onpira GmbH, in Zittau. Cost 140 Euro.

How many Nm to fit the steeringwheel center nut?
-
After 2 times fastening by hand the steer came loose after a while.
Last time I did it pneumatic and no more problem.
-
Thanks!
But no one with a Nm number? :) most secure that way.
-
Thanks!
But no one with a Nm number? :) most secure that way.
I have attached the torque values from the Steering/Lenkung section of a German Murena Manual.
"Lenkrad an Linkspindel" is the nut in question and is 55 Nm.
N.B. From my removals and refittings of the steering wheel over the years and the nut coming loose, I now first clean both threads with contact cleaner, apply Loctite 243, then tighten as hardest possible with a 1/2" drive socket set.

Thanks GP, and to all in this forum! Always help to get! Thanks again!
