Refurbishment of my 1.6 has progressed to the back of the car. I need to separate a bearing carrier from its driveshaft to replace the cv boots. I was expecting to see a circlip holding it on but this is what I have found (see attachment) Is there a trick to getting bearing carrier off the shaft?
Thanks

You don't have to seperate the axle for it if you use universal boots.

You can also use a Cola bottle for it or a cone.

Last 4 pics Bart Maztra.
Make sure to find the better quality boot.
The cheap Chinese sh*t don't last long.
Also put the boots before mounting in warm water to soften it.

Thanks for the quick response Oetker. I wish I had gone down the universal boot route but I have bought the 'proper' boots which are attached to new metal cans. I cut the old cans to get at the shaft and bearings so I have no option other than fitting the new boots and cans.
Should I get the big hammer out?

Thanks
Hi Rayburn.
Can you please modify your post by deleting the photo and reinsert it after reducing its size. ;)

Looks straight forwards, did put on new axles complete 2 years back and still need to revive the old ones .
Make sure to put the tripods back at the same spot (mark tooth to tripod holder)
The tripods have a predefined angle to the tripod at the other end of the axle.
Good luck
