hi - car imobilised with the above warning (mk4 2.2dci grande) any ideas?!
read something about a sticking bolt?
so will try wiggling key and tapping under steering wheel...

You prob wont get much help here as only dedicated to the old Matra cars.
Sounds like you have a problem with your card reader or card. The only way to remove the bolt is to smash it off with a big hammer & chisel. To remove one from a scrap car it has to be activated with the card.

Hi Brian - thank you - youa re right about hammer - took off the trim below steerin wheel and some judicious "fixing" and wiggling and she started!

Actually the box that is the electronic steering lock on these is held on by a left hand threaded bolt with a shear off head. I have taken these off before with a small pin punch and hammer to rotate the bolt until it is loose and then wound it out, so you don't necessarily have to smash it off with a hammer and chisel. However once a steering lock is coded to a particular chassis number/car it cannot be re-coded to another vehicle. (at least they never could when I worked at Renault UK - have they changed?) so if your lock fails you will have to buy a new (blank) one and have it coded to your car.
