Title: Gear lever bushes help. Post by: macaroni on May 18, 2008, 06:52:02 pm Hi,
before I dismantle my car completely, can someone point me at the "top hat" bushes under the gear lever? Is it accessible from inside or underneath the car? My gearchange is OK, but as I had these bushes I thought I would change them anyway. I just replaced the ones on my 205gti and it really improved the gearchange. Any help gratefully received. Title: Re: Gear lever bushes help. Post by: macaroni on May 18, 2008, 08:16:58 pm Ha, uncanny. So, if I'm not removing the gearstick, like Oskar, there is no need to do anything inside the car?
Damn... Title: Re: Gear lever bushes help. Post by: macaroni on May 19, 2008, 12:15:43 pm Well, I removed the gear lever bush to find it was already a bronze type and had no play whatsoever. I guess my gearchange is as good as it will ever be.
Thanks for your advice. Title: Re: Gear lever bushes help. I guess my gearchange is as good as it will ever be. I did mine a few weeks ago, but also found there was no play in the old part (even though it was steel). I have a slight bit of play in the pivot joint on the gearbox, and the rod going into the gearbox can also slide a bit around, but it will never be "knife in butter", I'm afraid :) |
