hi Paul, mines is a 2001 dci grande model....had a go at it today and think its down to top mounts on struts.........i slackened them off and doused them with wd 40..........doesnt seem to have done any good so far but will bear with it for a few days n see how i get on.getting a distinct twang from the top mounts when turning steering......there might be a bearing at the top........if it dont improve my next move is to take the struts off and investigate........this car was off the road for 6 months before i bought it and renewed the turbo so might be down to sitting around........if you need any info how to get to top mounts just give me a shout............n/s is ok but i took wiper linkage off to get into o/s a bit easier.cheers Ian

hi, I had the same problem!! it was the bearings at the bottom of the big spring around the strut, they are exposed to the weather and tend to rust !! get someone to turn the wheel while you take a look at the strut and see if the spring moves when you turn? the spring should not move !! if it does move a bit your bearings are shot!! take a look at my ealier thread and anders and renaultbiulder have explained what to do!! not expensive to do if you have clamps for the spring.

Hi guys i think Brian could be right about the strut bearings, i'm also getting a distinct metallic clatter for a second or so when on a rough surface and it sounds like its behind the dash on the  drivers side, have looked at everythig else this side except the strut top so i'll check them both, checked out the threads mentioned, seems pretty straightforward, if no joy
I will also seperate the bottom steering column uj from the steering rack and check that it has not got a tight spot, it's pretty close to the exhaust downpipe joint, my thinking is has it been affected by heat and partially siezed, i hope not as this part strikes me as being expensive.
i'm off on holiday this weekend for two weeks so will get to grips with it  after and will post results, regards Paul.
