Title: Strange problem: Closing drivers window, the window motor dont stop
Post by: Sommerby on August 24, 2008, 06:05:22 pm
Renault Grand Espace 2.2DCI from 2000.

If I close the drivers window the electrical motor dont stop but continiues to try to close the window until it have drained the battery totally. My workaround so far is to close the window and then to open it one milimeter in order to break the close circuit. Since it draines the battery when the ignition is off.

I also have the problem that the "first stage" of the closing operation is not working. My only option is to press the button and the window continues to close fully. I have tried to renew the "2 stage" switch used for operating the window, but it did not help.

Would it be possible to disable the "second stage" closing and get the "first stage" working. So the window only close when the button is pressed down)

Any good advices will be mostly appreciated.

Best Regards
Bo

Hej Bo

I remember you have had this problem for a long time now :( It must be very annoying.

I thought you found a solution to it and replaced one of the relays on the BII computer?
Obviously, that didn't fix it.

My guess is that you have a problem in the BII and the only real fix is to replace it (ouch!) or repair it (but I don't know how!).

Hi Anders.
Yes you are right. I thought I solved the problem by replacing 2 micro relays in the Zentral box, but it didnt solve the problem.  I feelt sure that it was one of the relays which were "hanging", since the window motor continued to run even when the ignigtion was off.
I am wondering how it works. When the window close, should the motor switch off due to a high current? Or are there limit switches at the open and close position?

Best Regards
Bo

Hi sommerby - I had a problem with my passenger window not working at all and I thought it was the relays (turned out to be broken connections) but whilst trying to fix it an auto electrician told me that the window regulators are stand alone and that all opening and closing operations are to do with the regulator itself - hope this helps.
Have you tried opening the inside of the door and disconnecting the regulator from the switches and then putting a 12dc current through it to see if it still has the same faults then you can eleminate everything else?

Hi Richard
The Drivers window is not a stand alone solution like all the other windows. Unlike all the other window operation switches there are only very thin signal wires connected to the drivers window and when trying to operate the window, you can clearly hear "Clicks" from the central box.  Today I attempted to disconnect the wires which are sending signal to the "one click for closing the window" operation, but even that did not solve the problem. The problem seems to occure allready when I make a gentle push on the window operating switch. This operation should only drive the window as long as I keep the gentle push on the button, but instead it just keep the windowmotor running all the time even when I take out the ignition key. The only way to stop the motor is to make a quick gentle push for the window down operation. The window down functions are working OK. A gentle push will drive the windown down until you stop pushing and a hard push will open the window fully.

Remember that the drivers side window is authorized for use 30 seconds after ignition OFF and key removed.

I would think that there might be an over-current device built into the BII unit that should stop the window motor when it stops fully closed/fully open.
On pre-BII vehicles there was a separate unit placed inside the door handeling pulse/normal control, but on BII cars this is handeled by BII instead.
So the BII detects pulse or holding of the button and commands the window accordingly.

BII - 26 Track yellow connector:
Track 10: One touch raise command from button
Track 11: Normal raise command from button
Track 24: Normal lower command from button

Cannot find any Track for pulse lowering so it might perhaps be 12v/GND signal input on track 10.....

BII - 16 Track Black connector:
Track 3: Drivers side raise output
Track 4: Drivers side lower output

So - are you 100% sure your button isn't broken ?? -sending normal raise/lower command instead of pulse command ?

Try altering outputs from BII to see if up now is working and down is now not working (to see if outputs is over current monitored)
