Title: 2.2dci The Race won't start when engine is warm.
Post by: Shane on October 06, 2008, 07:10:41 pm
Please can someone help. I am new to this site and also new to owning an Espace. The problem is my car starts no problem in the morning when the engine is cold but wont start once it has warmed up. The engine turns over but fails to start. I recently had a new cambelt fitted and changed the TDC sensor which made no difference. The car runs perfect once it's started, it just doesn't want to start when it's warm.

Hi
You need to have the car diagnosed to see what the problem is.
Could be a temperature sensor, car thinks it is still cold when infact hot?

Have you seen any warning symbold up in the display or is the engine symbol lit?

Really do need to dump the contents of the engine ecu to see what faults are recorded.

Hi John, thanks for your reply. On reading the post on page 9 re- starting problem 2.2dci i have totally lost all faith in the car. There has been no warning lights coming on at all and the car starts fine when it's cold so i presume there will be no fault code recorded. I had trouble last year with a leaking injector and the warning lights and engine cutout happened but this time there has been nothing to suggest it is the same problem. It looks like the only solution is to take it to Renault and have all the necessary tests done and keep my fingers crossed.

Hi Shane,
I have had the same problem. My car only started when it was really cooled down. Could take hours before it would start. No error codes were stored in the ECU. An intermediate solution was to spray diesel starter fluid in the air intake tube to the intercooler (while starting). The cause turned out to be a leaking injector. Therefore  the common rail pressure was too low. You can test the injector leak easily by pulling off the return pipes from the injectors and check the amount of fuel leaking. There should be a considerable difference in leaking between the injectors. A more precise method is described in the engine workshop manual or via the diagnostic tool from Renault.
