Title: crack and hole in gearbox
Post by: Oskar on October 12, 2008, 06:53:16 pm
after investigate the problem with starting the murena I found a big hole in the gearbox house round the cluth and a crack in the house that the starter sits on. GOT DAMNIT!!  No more murenadriving :(
im not that strong so i can push it everytime I whant to drive  :-\

what to do?  change engine and gearbox (xu9jaz) or try to find a working gearbox?

You could find a scrap gearbox with a good housing and change the housings over.  That would be the lowest cost option.  Changing the engine would be a major project and you would not have an original car any more.

The bellhousing surrounding the clutch is a special Matra part, that connects the Chrysler/Simca engine with the Citroen/Lancia gearbox.

You need to investigate, why it cracked. I have never heard of this problem before.

Simon can supply a "new" one.

You have to take out the gearbox to refit the new one. While out consider a refreshing of the syncromesh.

Hi Oskar,

Very sorry to hear about you problems!
If nothing else, I got a spare engine with gearbox at my workshop.
It did work perfect up until it was taken out of my HDI project car...

Let me know if you are interested.

Regards,
Valdemar

PS: Can help wondering what you did to the car at that trackday  ::)

This seemes to be a common failure on the 1.6
In this topic 2 others have this problem (see pic)
http://oscar.messageboard.nl/7101/viewtopic.php?t=975

I translate why it happened.
2 reasons were mentioned in several topics.
Someone forgot to mount the support part for the starter.
The engine mounting was warn.

If it is not to bad, its possible to weld.
Since I don't have a 1.6, I cant verify.

good luck

hmm  is it easier to weld it and hope it last or get a spare gearbox?

I dont know from wich citroen model I can try to find one?
I really liked this gearbox, synchro worked very good in all gears

and im on a tight budget  :(

Don't know if you did see my reply, but I got a 1.6 gearbox that was working fine until I took it out of my HDI project car...

I don't expect it to cost much, as a guide line I sold a 2.2 gearbox, that I didn't know the condtion of, for 500 DKK no less than that, preferable a bit more  ;)

Let me know if it's of any interest... Not sure when I going to sweden next time, but around christmas at the latest...

Well it looks like Waldo can rescue you, and you don't need to scrap the old gearbox, you can just swap over the bell housing.

Hmm... I might actually, as I need a new fuel pump for my carb project, so... perhaps! ;) Are there any motorsport events coming up in southern Sweden that we (my lads and I) could attend?

Another option is to ask one of my colleagues, who lives in Malmö if he can bring it over to you. Only problem is that I think he's taking the train... a gearbox is a "little" heavy for that. But I'll ask him when I see him again (he stayed home today with a cold :( )

I also got a friend that lives in Helsingborg... and works in Denmark!
I know it's not as close to you as Malmö, but at least you don't need to cross the bridge!
I'll e-mail him and ask if he's coming to cph soon  ;)

Men Oskar då! Du kan väl slänga i något roligare när du ändå råkat ut för detta. Varför inte en smaskig TU-motor? med turbo? =)

Why don't  build it with an PSA Tu-engine with turbo instead? would be much more fun!

how much do you charge for the gearhouse?  :)

Was that a question for me?

If so I don't fancy splitting the gearbox... you have the complete gearbox for 750 DKK.

yes I ment the question for you  :)

I cant understand in how a bad enginemount could couse that failure though. but in my case a missing bolt and the other whole could be the problem.

Ill try find a day I can travel to denmark and meet my personal matradealer  ;) :D :)
