What a pity. The stories mention nothing about what the area will be used for or if the main building will be preserved. The french usually try to preserve their industrial historic sites. I regret, I didn't find the site when I was there last year.

The eldest parts will not be demolished, as far as I know: they have to be preserved. The production plants is lost.

That's good to hear.

It's a pity Matra was forced to close down car production - they still had a lot of good ideas which I thing would have changed the world a little bit to the better :) But the automotive industry is a tough business.

I can see the point in demolishing an old unused factory taking up precious space near the river in Romoratin. Romoratin is a very pretty town, and I'm sure they can find other good uses for the site. And maybe there will be a good spot for the museum somewhere there? The current location is pretty, but they could use a good deal more space!

Yes that's right, but normal people doesn't care about good, quality or futuristic cars, they care only about the price and doesn't care if it is from China or Korea or if it is total trash - the most important is that it is  cheap cheap cheap  :-\  ???  >:(

Does this mean the museum is no longer?

I'm going to France in July and wanted to visit!

The museum is closed now (says the site) until 16 May, for other reasons.

At 30 and 31 May there is the large meeting at Romorantin of the French Matra club celebrating 45 years Matra, including a visit to the museum. So, it will be open again at that time.

I intended to visit the meeting, but I have a family weekend and I'm afraid that I have to visit the museum later this year.

The Museum is located off the old plant site in another old factory building near the river, so it was never connected to the Matra factory site. I was only speculating whether the demolition/development of the plant site would mean that the museum could move to larger premises...

This is a link to a (my) Panoramio-photo showing the location on Google maps:

... and this one is the Matra plant main entrance:

I think MECUK will be sending a delegation, which will include one or two frequenters of this forum.  Incidentally, if my dodgy French is to be trusted, the Museum is currently closed for essential repairs to the roof.  Let's all hope the work is proceeding to schedule.
