Title: idle speed regulater valve

i may have a faulty unit, how do i test it? how much r they new,and where is the best place to get it, anyone got a good spare one? what other renaults have the same unit as the espace 2litre petrol

I take it you engine runs rough, esp. on idle - I had this and suspected the idle speed sensor but thankfully it was a cracked spark plug (4) - replaced all plugs and all is well again !

Yes, there are several possible causes for unstable idle, including clogged up crank case ventilation, spark plugs, valves etc.

The idle speed regulator valve is best checked by taking it out of the car and checking it:

- The rotating valve should move easily when you move it using your finger.
- It should be able to close completely
- Using a 9V battery between the middle pin and either of the outer pins in the connector, the valve should open or close completely and easily.

A valve can be opened and cleaned, but it is difficult to reassemble. A new one isn't cheap though. I think one of the UK guys in the forum can point to a good reseller.
