Title: alarm will not reset
Post by: ESPACED on October 21, 2009, 12:52:12 am
Hi guys,
I have had a year of motoring with no problems after the rebuild, but yesterday i left the lights on and the battery went flat... managed to jump start but the alarm stated to count down and the siren would play the indicatore flash.. i managed to drive home by disconnecting the siren..
I charged the battery over night, the next morning I tried it again and the same thing happened, it started counting down and the siren would play the indicatore flashed but the car did start on its own power..
so the battery has enough strenght to start the car, but why does the alarm system not reset????
Oh its 2.2TD  1998
help please :'( :'(

Alarm is not standard equippment on the Espace, are you sure its a genuine alarm system supplied from Renault ? What type ?

My rough guess is that somehow the absens of power screwed up the alarm system. If the "disconnect battery for a while" modern solution ::) doesnt help i would consider to drop the alarm unless you actually need one for some reason.

No Tony, the fact that it works from the Plip does not mean it is factory equipment.  As Renaultbiler said the factory didn't fit them.  In the U.K. they often fitted an alarm after they had arrived in the U.K.  However, these are usually Cobra units and the main control units are under the dash top, and they are linked to the Renault system so they operate via the Plip remote.  One has a fuse in it, which you can remove to deactivate it.  You could try pulling that and after a short delay refitting it, and see if it will reset, or you may need to take it to a dealer to get it checked on Clip.

hi espaced,
I guess you have checked all the door switches and the hood switch if there is one, the flat battery could be just coincidence. I have replaced 4 broken door switches now. Maybe open and shut all the windows in case its a fancy alarm with switches there too.

Roy4matra is right. My espace has a cobra Thatcham CAT1 alarm, fitted after car arrived in UK, BUT before it went on the road for first time. Car wa sold by a dealer in London originally, and I live n Lincolnshire in the north.  Very clever things these alarms. They see any messing about with batteries and such as an attempt to by-pass the alarm system and go into protective mode of sorts. Hard to get around if you do not know what you are doing.   I had an issue with a sensor above the very rear overhead light in the boot. We knocked it off putting something big in the car. It would not start afterwards. Dealer no use on this one. Cobra alarm specialist soon fixed it, but had to re-set the system for us. Two minute job, but now of course, I know who to call if it happens again!! At least you can be assured no thieveing little sod will get very far if they break in!
