Title: Matra Tee-shirts wanted - urgently
Post by: andyowl on August 18, 2010, 08:24:07 pm
I would like to buy two or three Matra Tee-Shirts to wear under my race overalls next weekend at the Etretat (Le Havre) Hill Climb event (Challenge Franco-Britanique.)  Also to wear to the "Reception" at the Benouville Marie on Saturday night (Charlie and I, with all the other competitors, are invited).

I would be happy with 1, 2 or 3 shirts!

They need to have the design in the centre to show while I am wearing the race suit. I remember seeing such a design at Mortefontaine. All the Matra models were represented on the front of the shirt. But I didn't have the need to buy them then. Now I do!

I would prefer the text in French (or English)! Any colour.

The UK Club does not have any. The Matra Passion website does not show any. Any suggestions?

All three Tee-shirts should be XXL or XL.

Round neck shape (no collar) and short sleeves would be ideal.

Hope you can help!

I was given a tee-shirt with a picture of a Jet 6.  It was made by these people http://www.bc-collection.eu
Looking at their web site, I think their logo upload tool was used to create it, but as it was a gift I don't know the process for obtaining them.  Probably not terribly helpful in view of the timescales, but may be useful in the future.  Good luck in the event anyway, and let us all know how you got on. :)

Thank you both for your suggestions! I'm on the case!

Andy,

You could make your own by going to Stapels or PC World and buy a pack of blank transfer paper for £10ish. They are A4 sheets, I think four in the pack. Choose a Matra logo on your computer and print onto the A4 sheet as you would normally do with plain paper. Then all you need to do is iron onto a plain shirt. I did this for my white overalls when pit crewing for Henrik at Goodwood last year. It works well.

Good luck for the event.

I purchased from Marks and Spencer this morning 4 T-shirts at GBP5.00 each with just that in mind!

The photo from Suffolk Pete I show on the left of this message will be the image plus "Matra-Simca Bagheera S+" in text (just in case nobody knows what they are looking at!)

I'll send a pic to the forum when I have done the first one!

Thanks for the response!

Andy

A word of caution. When I tried it you need to get the heat just right for the transfer to peel. Try it first on a bit of spare cloth. The other thing will be blowing up Peter's image to the size you require. It may not be defined enough for the size you need. That being said, my computer skills are lacking to say the least.

What is this event Andy? Are you running the Supercharger?

Thanks for the advice on using the "iron-on" transfers. I haven't read the instructions yet! Suffolk Pete has sent me a Hi Res image to make it clearer. We shall see!

The event is entitled:- "Course de cote historique D'Etretat-Benouville". Etretat is a coastal town to the east of Le Havre and is the start of the Hill Climb while Benouville is the village at the top of the hill and provides the finish and the Paddock.

On the Saturday morning, after a parade though the town, scrutineering takes place in front of the Etretat Town Hall - all 106 cars jammed into the carpark and it is like a scene from the Pink Panther! Very colourful, many many visitors, loads of locals and holiday makers wanting to see what all the fuss is about! Speaking French is good (or not in my case) but Franglais is also spoken. I would show you the pictures I took last year except that my camera was stolen during the Scrutineering. It was my fault for leaving it where it could be seen. I shall be more careful this year you may be sure.

Benouville is a sleepy village off the beaten track, close to the cliff edge,  with two large fields at the top of the hill where we put the cars, and in our case, park our motorhome and spend the nights.

On Saturday evening, this year, as last year, the Mayor of Benouville invites all the competitors to come to a "Reception" in the Town Hall and meet the local Dignatories and local people. Think "Hallo, Hallo" but for real! We were made very welcome and the whole thing was very enjoyable, Charlie and I are looking forward to doing it all again this year. But this year we shall have Matra T-Shirts which hopefully will give the locals a conversation starting point. The Brits who love French cars, as you might imagine, are very popular. That is not to say that the drivers of MGs, Jaguars and Fraser Nashes are not equally welcome, but the world and his french wife have all had Matras at some time!

And the Supercharger is now a permanent fixture in Baggy Joe and he is used at least once per week even for shopping. How else are we to get mileage experience and find out what will fall off?
