That's the car of John Simpson, Practical Classics' chief mechanic.  He paid £500 for it I believe, although he's done quite a bit of work since.  New suspension arms (where did he get those?) can't have been cheap.  I think he will be extremely lucky to get anywhere near £3250 in the present market.

Well according to my eBay there's someones made an offer! On the up side it looks a pretty sound car, except for the stickers. I must say I quite like the gold Murenas, especially with gold wheels..

I agree with SuffolkPete about the price but why are these great cars so cheap? Yes you need to spend your hard earned to make them as they were intended (or better)and I know all about that in spades, but they are worth it. I would say a reasonable Murena should fetch £8,000 when sorted but of course they don't. At least here in the UK. Does that seem too high? I think not. A rare French marque with all the racing pedigree behind it vs. entry level Porsche, Montecarlos etc. Matra every time for me.

On the plus side for us Murena enthusiasts , this secret remains closely guarded. But for how long? I like it this way. At least if your pride and joy is crashed or stolen you can start again if like me you are not Bill Gates.

Happy New Year folks.

I think the main turn off with our cars is the left hand drive factor, not that it's really a factor if you've ever driven a left hooker, the other thing is despite  great history, no one seems to know anything about them, like their F1 and le mans achievements have vanished. I either get asked is it a kit car OR is that a Bagherra, oh well.

Lots of reasons really, LHD is one, they seem to fetch more money in Continental Europe, but I think another is that they were never sold officially in Britain.  A lot of people of advancing years look for the car they couldn't afford when they were young when they're searching for a classic.  One of my Christmas presents was a book of Matra road tests and in it are quoted values of up to £11,000 for  a 2.2S, so it wasn't always so.  I have mixed feeling about the values.  On the one hand there is no other way you can have so much fun for so little money but on the other hand it leads to a lot of cars being scrapped or sent out of the country and poor spares support. Also if you ever have the misfortune to have it written off, the insurance will never pay out what you've spent on it.

A good Murena should be more then  €10.000 overhere, however because of galvanisation there is a lot of rubbish on the market.
The pictures of  a €2000.- one in ads look good but it is ready for restauration.
€4000.- for a Murena with work.
They bring the price of a good Murena down.
I am busy with mine for a few years now.
I calculated to bring it in tiptop shape, it cost me €15000.- incl. the price I paid for it (€4000.-)
I do all the work myself except the respray. (around €3000.-)
I will never get this money back, but it is a hobby, and the car give me pleasure.

If you want a daily driver better look for something like this.

Also 26 years old and 40.000 miles.
Tax free overhere in the Netherlands.
This one cost me €2000.- to buy and fix the ods and ends incl. installation of a GPL I did myself.

(http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/2839/p1020915medium.jpg) (http://img406.imageshack.us/i/p1020915medium.jpg/)

It is my daily driver, and not so much fun as a Murena but it will drive me around for the next 5 years to come.
The Murena is still far away from that moment.

Haha, I know what you think, but some of these need to be saved to.
You see them less then a Murena.
Most of this cars are rusted to pieces.
It is cheap transportation.
I only pay €80.- a  year for insurance and it is roadtax free.
On GPL driving make me smile when i fill the tank.

Hello guys . I too have a murena on the market at the moment. It is up on the carsandclassics site.I am looking for more than the guy with the gold and brown one is looking so I doubt she will sell in the current economic climate. Bureaucracy and customs duty are making it difficult to own and run this wonderful car in my country Ireland.Cars registered after 1979 will never be considered as classics again. ie; no classic tax rates and will need to be tested every year.Regards TOG

Hi Terry (TOG0035)

Is that really the case now in Ireland? I just tried looking it up but the information available is not clear.

I was waiting to register my car next year and avail of the cheaper road tax.

Not sure what to do if this is the case (just have my Murena finally sorted!!)

Cheers
Derek

Having just looked at the pictures it seems a pretty ropey example, would be lucky to get half of that price.
