Title: Rims & tires
Post by: tjommi on September 24, 2013, 11:47:54 pm
Hi. I'm new to the forum, and have a few questions regarding wheel and tire fitment on the Murena. Ideally I would like to fit 8x16 ET25 in the front and 9x16 ET20 in the back. Can anyone tell me if these  will  fit my 81 Murena? Clearance issues? Thanks in advance.

Hi, Welcome to the forum. Can't answer your question but this may help a little bit:

Hi, Welcome to the forum. Are we talking road car or track car?

Thank you for the kind welcome. We are talking about a road/trackday car. Primarily a road/weekend-driver, but it may also see some track time.

I wouldn't go farther than 7J on the front. Steering will be worse and the chance of damaging your panels is not unimaginable.

Hmmm. That wasn't exactly the answer I was hoping for :) I'm quite sure I've heard that Politecnic supplied rims for the Murena in 7,5x17 ET20 for the front and 8,5x17 ET13 for the back? 8" in the front and 9" in the back would look awesome on the Murena I think ;D

Hi Tjommi

For a road car I think Martijn is being generous at 7".  The Murena is so light at the front I would use a 6" rim, with a large tyre footprint in the wet the car will be an absolute dog and in the dry will skip around every undulation and white line on the road but no a very smooth track not so bad.

Regards
John

Welcome to the forum.  ;D
You would need a body kit to widen the fenders or the tires would rub. Also need spacers since the stock wheels only have about 1/2" clerance to the rear swingers. But it could be done.  8)
John is right though about the front tires. Not enough weight to keep contact on wet road if too wide tires.

Guess I'll start looking for a new set of rims then...  :) So you guys think I'll be alright if I find a 7" rim with about 30 offset? How about size? Will 17" be ok, or should i stick to 16" or below? I don't mind a harsh ride ;D My Forester daily driver is rolling on Impreza STi suspention and 18", so I'm used to a stiff ride :P

Here are a couple of links to help you figure out how radical you can go.  ;D
This one is for calculating wheel offset.
http://www.oponeo.co.uk/advice-and-tips/wheel-offset-calculator (http://www.oponeo.co.uk/advice-and-tips/wheel-offset-calculator)

This one lets you compare tire sizes to find one with the equivalent circumference.
http://tire-size-conversion.com/tire-size-calculator/ (http://tire-size-conversion.com/tire-size-calculator/)

For eksample, if you take the stock 195/60R15 a close match would be  245/40R17. 91.9 Mph compared to 90 Mph for the stock tire.
Not that I would recommend such a low profile, though.  ;)

Thanks! Then I'll jut have to break out the tape measure and check my clearances in- and outside and see how extreme I can go ;D Anyone tried mounting fender flares to fit bigger wheels?

There are several kits available but they are not cheap
From Simon Fleischmann F2 and Fleischmann F3.
From Politecnic: Kit J.P. Beltoise, Murena évolution "Groupe .4" & “Groupe 5” and Groupe F.
There are many options if you are willing to spend the money!

I got myself a set of "new" rims today. They have to be restored so the picture is borrowed from the interwebs...

I wanted ATS Classics in 15" but I could only find 13" Classics. Then these beauties came on my path. 15" ATF rims. I got the set of 4 for only 50 Euro's...

Now I have to figure out if I wish to polish the rims or coat them silver...

Damn! Those were wide ;D I wasn't looking to go that wide, just some standard flares if possible. Sweet ride you've got there, looks like a supercar. Do you have the horsepower to back it up?

Nice rims! I would have kept them silver, polished is to "flashy" ;)

I'm looking for something like these for my Murena

You can get a very lightweight (4.5 - 5kg) similar 15" 3-piece  wheel from Force Racing in the U.K.

They will make any offset you require and colour finish to your specification.

They also have a new range coming soon.

http://www.force-racing.co.uk/wheels-15/

P.S. I am having some very impure thoughts of commissioning a set of the Turbo TF's in the second and third images. Ooh they are so 70's and with a few beers a bit like the original 14" Murena wheels? :-\

As an aside I have just had my 80's Lancia Delta Integrale Wheels fitted to my Murena (7J x 15" E.T. 27 - 9.5kg) refurbished ready for UK Route 2014 after many years of abuse. They are actually better now than when I bought them.
Below them is a 6.5 J x 15 E.T. 27 Spanish Braid Wheel I use for different compound tyes.

I now have a set of 16" on hand. 7,5x16 ET35 58,1 center bore. Is there anyone that can verify that these will fit? I know i might have to use a spacer to compensate for the high ET, but my main concern is the bore.
Thanks in advance  :)

Yes 58.1mm bore is correct for the Murena.
I agree you will need some spacers.  10mm + depending on your tyre selection.

Hi,
I have just measured my wheel hubs and I got the result 58 mm so 58,1 will fit.
However the offset (ET) of 35 mm will (If I have understood the system) be more problematic. as the figure is too high, which you cannot compensate for If ET is too small you can compensate with a spacer.

Hmmm. I thought it was the other way around? The higher offset, the further "in" the wheelwell. Low offset further out, but i could be mistaken  :)

Correct.
7" ET 40 will be deep under the car, 7" ET 10 will be almost at the outside of it.....

So if you have a wheel with ET35 and use a 10mm spacer, that would be equal to a wheel with ET25?

Title: Re: Rims & tires
Post by: GP on April 24, 2014, 08:52:23 am
This tool below gives a clear visual answer.

For example I have a 7 inch x 15" wheel with an offset of ET 27mm. These are fine with a 205 tyre, but if I go up to a 215 tyre  I have paint removed from the trailing arm and use a 10mm spacer. If I went to a 7.5 inch x 16 inch wheel with an offset of ET 37mm the tool below shows a 14mm extension inboard which probably require a spacer. There will be no problems with the wheel arch clearance, as it is slightly smaller than mine. Type the numbers in and play.

I hope this is clear now?

Looks like a perfect fit up front ;D But I need to replace my wheel bolts as well. Can anyone give me some details on thread pattern and so on? What bolts fit the Murena?

60 deg. taper with M12 thread x 1.25mm pitch x 22mm thread length fits a standard wheel O.K.

Bolts obviously need to be longer in proportion to your spacers required.

Simon auto-de do a selection of spacer/bolts if you scroll down this link:

Thanks! Will be picking them up tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get to fit them to the car sometime during this weekend. Going to a car show this saturday, and it would be fun to go in the Murena sporting some fresh new wheels  ;D
