Title: Espace Mk3 sill rust
Post by: johnnymartin on March 06, 2014, 10:36:26 pm
Hi - i thought espace was rust proof - but on one side there is a  sill which is a panel with preformed holes  - these have now started rusting out.  is this common - easy repair - mot point?

thanks Johnny

No, not true.  They are galvanised, which is not the same thing.  Galvanising slows the corrosion process to about one 20th normal.  So if the vehicle was say 20 years old it might have approx. one years corrosion.

If the corrosion is within the prescribed area of a mounting point of the suspension or a seat belt anchorage then yes it could be a failure.  It depends on how bad the corrosion is, and if it is seriously affecting the strength.
