Title: Replacement of the alternator regulator
Post by: variator on June 25, 2014, 08:22:57 pm
Where is the alternator regulator located on the Murena, and is it difficult to get to it for replacement?
The charging indicator light on my 2.2 has begun to flash and I have ordered a new alternator regulator on ebay.

Depends on the alternator, but usually mounted on the end of the unit. Google could be the answer if you know which alternator you have.,

I understand that it sits in the end of the alternator, but can you  replace it without taking the alternator out of the car?

Unfortunately my Murena is a 1.6lt, so that is one bit of information I cannot help you with but I imagine maintenance on the alternator is best done on a workbench.

Thank you JL!
Having adjusted the V-belt on alternator and know how incredibly cramped and inaccessible it is down there so I fear trouble and swearing  :) regulator unit is equal on 1.6 and 2.2 model, I think?

Charge lamp has incidentally stopped flashing. Wonder if  an engine wash was to blame?
Others here have experienced that it has flashed after an engine wash?
But charging has been a little low since I got the car, so I think I change the regulator anyway.

Adjusting the Alternator belt is a pain on the Murena. Check out my post here on the solution I made.: http://www.matrasport.dk/forum/index.php/topic,1389.0.html (http://www.matrasport.dk/forum/index.php/topic,1389.0.html)

Getting to the electronics on the Alternator is easier from beneath the engine as I recall. There you can also check if the wire that feeds the charge light has come loose. Mine had.

Yes, you can change the regulator with the alternator still on the engine in the car, but you must know what you are doing and you work from underneath.

Someone also mentioned that even adjusting the belt is difficult, but that depends.  First remove the adjusting nut, washer, bolt and square spacer.  The square is such that it cannot turn within the bracket as it's sides contain it.  So you weld the bolt to the square and now you can slacken or tighten the nut with just one hand and spanner.  Easy!!
