Title: How do you remove the front brake discs on the murena?
Post by: Joe Webb on August 06, 2014, 06:28:13 pm
can't seem to work out how to remove the brake discs, I've removed the hub nut and as a result the back of the wheel bearing has slid out, but everything is still attached

also sorry I don't know all the names for the parts yet

Cheers
Joe

Front wheels: remove hub nut, pull out the hub with a puller.

Joe,

If you buy a cheap secondhand Simca 1100 Haynes type workshop manual on e-Bay it covers the Murena steering, suspension and brakes, including disc replacement. It will also help you with identifying the correct name of each item and tools required. The big bonus is that it is English and will help generically with learning about many other aspects of a car.

thanks GP, that looks helpful, I'll look into it.

I ended up taking it to my dad's mechanic

Cheers!

You are actually better off with a Talbot Alpine/Solara manual than the Simca, because it also covers the 1.6 engine.  Probably easier to find as well.

Joe, I've just replaced my front bearings, which is basically the same job as I had to strip the front. You don't need a hub puller. Simply slacken everything and use two road wheel bolts through the hub to push the disc loose. Lump hammer and crowbar might be needed. As mentioned, the Haynes is a good guide.

cheers!
