Title: Steel for rear wishbone refurb
Post by: lewisman on January 19, 2015, 09:18:33 pm
I am planning to have my tatty rear wishbones blasted prior to rebuilding them with new steel.  Is there an ideal specification for the steel plate for repair sections? I don't want to make them too heavy but they need to be strong.

Haven't  got a clue regarding spec and thickness, but how about using some galvanized mild steel plate?
At least it shouldn't corrode.

Thanks Graham. I was trying to work out how thick I should go.

If I remember correct, you should be able to measure the thickness at the drain hole. Just remember that the original is made of two layers of steel. (which is one reason they rust so bad)
