Title: Grrrrrrr
Post by: Anders Dinsen on November 08, 2006, 11:09:10 pm
My wife went to yoga class this evening in the 24V, and when she got out to go home, the front left triangular window between the windscreen and drivers door was smashed. Some idiots tried stealing our Tomtom, which is *never* in the car unless we are there too - all they got was the dock for it, a charger, and a piece of coax cable for the gps mouse fitted out the back.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.  :P

What we have is a lot of broken glass all over.

Just wanted to share my annoyance with everyone ;D I feel better already.

A few years back we returned from a trip by Espace to Perpignan. As we arrived home very late I left a couple of bags in the car.

Thief smashed the lift-up rear window in the tailgate and took just one bag, which contained just the kid's inflatable pool toys, value zilch.

I was impressed that the autoglass company could supply the fairly rare rear window on a Sunday morning, not so impressed that the Renault UK fitted alarm didn't go off even though there's a movement sensor right by the tailgate...

Ouch Anders,... that's not good! I hope that small window won't be too much to replace..?! Glad he didn't get anything else though!

Yes that's good indeed - I also got a price for that window from my regular Renault parts broker and it's not that bad. I think the whole deal including fitting can be done for less than 1500 DKK (of which there's 11.5 per GBP and 7.5 per EUR). Only problem is it can't be done before Tuesday, but fortunately we have a third car at the moment ;)

Dear Anders,
I would be very angry too  ???.
Hopefully this never happens.

You both (wife and you) have my full sympathy as well.

It just shows that the article I recently read is right - never ever display ANYTHING in the car, - and especially not a GPS cradle.

The inssurance companies have a vast amount of such breakins, either because the GPS unit is actually there, or simply because the cradle is. Apparently a lot of people simply stick the GPS unit in the glovebox or the door.

I have heard the same about radios with detachable fronts.
