Title: Ignition barrel dismantling
Post by: Matraman on October 27, 2019, 11:36:44 pm
My first post on your excellent forum! I’ve read through a lot of very helpful posts, they will be a great help to me as I try to put my (new to me) 2.2 Murena back on the road after a previous owner stored it in his garage for 20 years.
I’ve been going over the electrics and have rectified a few issues, but I have a faulty ignition barrel which prevents the ignition key from turning , unless you sit there for 5 minutes jiggling it about, then it turns OK and the ignition comes on. A squirt of WD40 hasn’t worked so I’ve removed the barrel and dismantled it, but I can’t get at the tumblers inside it to see if I can align them better.
Is it possible to dismantle it that far or do I need to source another barrel?

Thanks, I saw that thread but was worried that the spring loaded “pip” looks different. I’ve ordered a generic switch for now which I’ll fit in an existing hole in the dash near the radio hole. It won’t have a steering lock but it won’t be on the road for a while yet anyway. At least I can check compression, engine function, electrics etc once it’s fitted.
