Title: Incorrectly rebuilt 2.2 engines (updated with rocker arm photos)
Post by: roy4matra on October 06, 2020, 01:15:39 pm
Hello all,

I've just heard that yet another 2.2 has half the rocker arms fitted in the wrong positions!  So far I think I can say that out of all the engines I have stripped that have previously been rebuilt at some time, about 99% have been wrong!  That is totally unacceptable because many of these have been rebuilt by supposed specialists.

It makes me wonder who has, or maybe still is, rebuilding all these engines incorrectly!  I have my suspicions but cannot prove it.  It does show that whoever it is, they don't even know the correct procedure for stripping and rebuilding engines anyway.  Even if you were not aware the inlet and exhaust rocker arms are different, it wouldn't matter if you always made sure the parts went back where they came from because the engines were correctly built at the factory.  So they would still be correct after a rebuild.

This is simply very poor workmanship and/or knowledge of procedures.

Is it any wonder why so many 2.2 engines have problems!

Please, if you are not sure, ask first.

Roy

the exhaust rockers have a little oil hole underneath them between the cam lobe and rocker shaft ,you can feel a little indent or use a little mirror to see them.

Thank you. I will watch for it, wenn I will comlplete the engine. Im still searching for a few parts. The rod bearings shells are not easy to find....

Just maybe.... I dunno, but maybe there were some French productionworkers at Romorantin that did not know the correct way of building the engines? :) :)

The engines would have been delivered ready built from Talbot.

As previously stated the inlet and outlet arms are different and it may seem obvious (but obviously not to those who have incorrectly rebuilt them) but the shafts are also different and they need mating and fitting on the correct side.
My engine was stripped down for a new cam fitting and was found to be correctly assembled. It was in good condition and I believe it had never been previously rebuilt.
