Title: Door latch problem.
Post by: lewisman on April 19, 2007, 01:17:20 am
I am having problems with the door lock mechanism on the rhs. It opens no problem from the inside but not from the outside and unless you press down the lock button when closing it, the "latch" mechanism doesn't work and the door doesn't stay closed.  Not a good idea if you are going round a corner :o

Is there an easy solution?  If I need a new door latch will a Bagheera one fit?

Only left hand corners... ;)
And there's an interesting way to catch pedestrians :o

If your in need of a new door latch, I think there is a guy on Ebay selling a few bits that look to include a couple of door latches, he is Germany tho, BUT i'm after a door handle, if you want we could go halves on the parts and the cost?

Hello boys, yes it's the same as on Peugeot 505 and there is one screw under the coloured movable piece. And it is the same as you use when opening the boot  ;)
But ussually the problem is not in handle but in the lock mechanism  ;)

Explain what? Do you mean "the problem with lock mechanism"? On my old silver 2,2 Murena, the lock mechanism was rusty and it was very hard to open the door - you had to press the door by your knee before opening from outside. And when you did opened it, the lock mechanism stays "open" so after closing the door, it didn't lock itself. After complete cleaning and greasing it was working fine.

To remove it yoy have to do it from the inside of the door.

I am looking for some chroom plated 505 door handles.  Do you sell them?

I took the door mechanism to pieces on my car and after a good clean and lube to works perfectly. It can be tricky getting it all back together so allow lots of time. I ended up doing in the dark with a torch... Not ideal..

Try loosing the bolts that hold the lock in place a little.
If the lock works ok, you mis the washers that are between the lock an the door.

after removing the door mechanism, the one that holds the door locked, and cleaned it and used 5-56 (oil) on every part it works great. :)
the booring thing is that the screw that holds the handle is just inserted in the plastic that will prevent it from rotating, yeah right frenchmen... it just spinns with the nut so no luck getting it loose...will try to crack the nut in the future

on the other hand.. the other doorhandle is now broken >:(. but now I know how to fix it. ::)

Hello,

which handle fits and which does not?
I would like to change them on my car...
By the way... were they painted originally or not?

Al my folder material from the 80s show doorhandles in the color of the car.

@ Oetker: I have just check my documentation and you are rigth: Murena door handles are in the color of the car body.
But then: Why are the door handles black on my Murena? Most likely because a provious owner changed the color of the car.

Thanks, it is nice to know.

But I meant which Peugeot 505 handle fits to Murena.
I think only the front handles are suitable... Am I right? Or does it depend on the year of production too?

Sorry I have not yet tried to install 505 handels on the Murena.

On regulary basis I see this things.

I don't know, but have the feeling it is not the same.
Wasn't it from peugeot 405 that fits?

It looks the same to me, the only difference is that it's chromed, not body colour painted.  It would not be from the 405, that model was not introduced until 1988.

I saw that. It looks similar with a more modern design but something is wrong with it. I compared it with a Murena door handle, and the lever on the back should be on the other side of the chrome plate.

But here it is:
http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00pvetEKudhZkT/Door-Handle-for-Peugeot-505-LH01-05007-.jpg

It looks the same only one question left, the dimensions...
And of course 'Made in China'...   :'(

Peugeot 405 has a totally different door handle. One of my colleagues has a 405 I know that car. But Peugeot 305 is suspicious... I saw one today.

Oh! Sorry, I was wrong. It should be the right one:

These are the front handles the former ones may be the rear.

Philbert has had his door handles chrome plated and they look good. :) He also chrome plated the release handle for the rear window. It is the same as the door handles. He had a spare that is now on my Murena's window release.  ;D

I did some research concerning the door handle.
Probably it is known that the release handle of the rear window is the same as the driver side handle without the link system on its back.

Peugeot 505 and 305 has similar handles to Murena, but there are a lot of different versions so you cannot use all of them without small modifications and of course they are chrome plated.

First photo shows the one which is the same as the original handle.

Others can be used on Murena with a small mod, except for the last one. You have to remove the link system and the lever on the back of the new one and install the old parts if they are not so worn.

The last one cannot be used on Murena because the mechanism is totally different. It is also used on Peugeot 505.

Sometimes you can find some cheap aftermarket products on ebay, but be careful because they might have poor quality. I ordered a set from Morocco but I had to send it back. Fortunately the seller changed and now the quality is much better.

Thanks for the research, but it would come in handy to know the Peugeot number of the ones that fit.

Unfortunately I do not know the Peugeot part number. The seller did not share it and I got the items wrapped in paper...

First I asked a Peugeot parts dealer in England via email, but they also did not tell me the number. I send a photo of the Murena handle and they told me the price. Of course I did not mention the type of my car to avoid rise in price. :)  But they were very expensive.

Door handles should have a Valeo part number, once I saw a photo on ebay.

If I know the part number, I will post it.
