Title: Heater control cable
Post by: Anders Dinsen on July 09, 2007, 06:33:09 am
Hi Guys,

My heater control stopped working a few days ago. At first I thought the cable had broken, but no - it was just the cable hose that had come loose from the valve end.

I fixed it yesterday with a cable strip, but since the mounting hardware is now gone, I can't see what the 'correct' way of fixing this is. How is the hose supposed to be attached to the valve mounting?

(No, the grease is not part of the fix, but preventive maintenance.)

Cheers,

I'd like to know this too, Mine looks just like yours, zip tie and all, but without the grease.. 1 x heater fully adjustable, by getting out of your car, opening the bonnet and moving the parts yourself... At least that way you actually get cold air.

I think the cable tie works fine as is, and it can hold on to the cable hose all right: I have operated the thing several times now ;) I wound a bit of insulation tape around the hose to give the tie something to bite into, and (also visible in the photo) also a bit of glue. But the tie itself may expand or break at some point.

Yes mine had this modification(?) on when i got it, i guess the original was a metal C clip type thing. I just find the levers in the cockpit dont move enough to actually make the adjustments. Its something i'd like to look at but theres so many other things i'd like to look at its gonna be like that for some time. Tommorows job it to glue the bonnet! and look at the lights.

Indeed. That's how we remember it's not a new car any more ;-) Having a list is part of the pleasure of owning a classic, I think.

I know simon auto have this clip, I recently bought 5 of them to fix some of my cables, including heater and choke.
