Title: Problems with the server? Post by: macaroni on August 31, 2007, 02:35:51 pm I'm finding it very hit and miss to access the website at the moment. Are there issues with the server?
Title: Re: Problems with the server? Post by: Anders Dinsen on August 31, 2007, 03:21:05 pm I know from Lennart that it has been suffering from lack of RAM for a long time. The other forum on the server has a good deal more activity than this one and the traffic there hits the server hard. A reconfiguration in June made it better, but hasn't fixed the problem at all. The server uses an odd type of RAM, so an upgrade involves the whole machine essentially - that's why they haven't done it yet.

Correct, but most of August we saw no aborted HTTPD servers - however the last 4 deays it happened 4 times. Problem is that as the websites grow larger, and in particular the databases grow, so does the related processes, so I have been forced to decrease the potential availability to some rather extreme values :( The plan is to replace the server with new hardware, which will increase memory at least 10 fold - I can hardly wait. However, funding is still being sorted out, so it is unclear when this is going to happen. /Lennart Title: Re: Problems with the server? On the Club-Arnage forum they try to get funding contributions from the members, - not sure how far they have gotten, but considering the size of this forum, I don't expect we can do a lot - unless somebody have an idea ??It costs about 1300 EUR/year to run the server (UPS power & unlimited bandwidth), and a new server will be say 2000 EUR. All ideas (and contributions) are welcome. /Lennart |
