Title: G8T ENGINES what are the differances ???? 706/790/752/794
Post by: ESPACED on March 02, 2008, 12:06:08 pm
Hi Guys,
as some of you are aware, a short time ago i was trying to remove my engine very late 1997 early 1998 espace  all that is done now.
Have taken head off and been told that the botom, part of the engine is a gonna...
rang a few places to repair/replace pistons etc but most tell me its not worth it..
So now looking for 1, a complete engine or 2 just a bottom half.

But when looking  to buy an engine or part of,  there are lots of differance versions like 706/ 790/752/794???????
Mines a G8T 706 and I what to replace it with the same engine so all the electrical sockets / components etc will find there places
can any one give me advise on what are the differances????
also will the laguna 2.2 turbo Diesel engine be the same as an espace??? or are the driveshafts differance etc ?????
please need help and advise so I can get my espace ready before the summer is over... as its just round the corner,

It's a mystery, I agree!

I did some investigation once about the types of F3R (2.0 8v petrol) engine, which my former JE was equipped with, and never found out what the differences were. some of the differences are just minor updates, while other differences are major.

I think there is an G8T without a turbo and that was the one that went in the Laguna - one of those would be of no use to you.

But.... our Norwegian friend Tom "renaultbiler" has a database of engine types on his website: http://www.renaultbiler.no/renaultdata/hent_motordata.php

According to his list, there are three numbers used in the 2.2 dT espace: 714, 716, and 718.

One other thing i found out is that if the 3 digit suffix ends with an even number (0,2,4,6 etc) the engine is fitted with a manual gearbox (normal flywheel and clutch etc), uneven final number (1,3,5 etc) is fitted with automatic transmission (converter etc)

so 727 is with automatic transmission while 714 is manual

Loads of small differenses but i suspect like Anders mostly small things in addition to electronic issues from ECU to engine components. Those might be the biggest pitfall with most head-scratching.

Also - the same engine (example L7X) has its own suffix (or suffix series) in each model its fitted to - so a L7X fitted in Espace has a different suffix than those fitted in the Avantime, Laguna and Safrane....

I don't know about the Laguna and Safrane, but the L7X in Avantime is not the same as the one in Espace JE0G - and this is not only because the Espace version is coupled to the automatic ZF gearbox and the Avantime is either a six speed manual box or a 5 speed automatic: The Avantime has the newer generation of this machine with variable valve timing and lightly higher power output.

Apart from that, I agree with you Tom ;)

well, thats what i mean with different suffix - its all because of different adaptions and various differenses on the same basic engine
