ball joint problems

Hi All, right im having an issue with removing the ball joint. its just spinning the stud. the is no where to hold the stud so stuck now. dont know what to do. shall i cut the stud and buy a new wish bone?

You need a pickle fork ball joint separator or similar,not expensive a tenner or so, to effectively wedge the ball joint and allow the removal of the nut,alternatively if youre replacing the ball joint/arm cut off the nut/stud and knock the remainder of the stud through the hub.Hope this helps.

If your ball joint is old anyway you could cut the stud and buy just a new ball joint for less than £20. Any workshop with a press should be able to replace the ball joint if you take the swing arm out. In that case take the arm out first in case you need to buy new swing arm bushings as well.
              The pickle fork tool usually damages the rubber boot, at least in my hands anyway. maybe you can get a very thin one that grips on the metal taper only. If you want to avoid replacing the ball joint then you will probably have to clean up the thread so that the nut rotates more freely.

why are you separating the ball joint?
