steering feels stiff and jagged

seems as if the steering is devided in small jacks.  could it be from lack of lubrication? 
balljoints etc are in good condition

What about the joints on the steering column, are there any play in any of them? There's two, one under the dash and one on the rack.

Yes, there is a steering joint near the steering house and when it was dry on my old silver Murena, the steering was hard sometimes and "jumping" - I don't know how to say. WD40 and than vaseline made big work :-)
