the pipe between distributer ann one dellorto carb  hs broken off .What difference if any does this make .Regards TOG

Sounds like the vacuum advance pipe.  It needs to be replaced, not only will you have lost the vacuum advance, but air will be drawn into the carb, weakening the mixture.
