Cheaper insurance for UK Avantimes?

I have Murenas insured with Footman James and was surprised and disappointed that they, along with most similar insurers in the UK, did not include the Avantime as a 'classic'. Having argued the case over the phone, I was told to write to the head of underwriting, which I did, explaining about the cars history, short production run and iconic status. I also mentioned the Avantime Owners UK club and the Matra Enthusiasts Club, saying I would publicise his company if he accepted our cars as classics.

I am pleased to say that he has accepted this and, with certain limitations, will insure Avantimes on a classic policy. So, if you are over 25 and use your Avantime for limited mileage (<3000 miles if you are under 35, <5000 miles if you are over 35) you may well be able to get an excellent value classic car policy with Footman James. Please let me know if you try for this policy and have any problems. Otherwise I hope this will save you money.
