hi people any one have any clue as to why i have a knocking noise on the front end when i put the power down on my espace?
could the drive shaft be on its way out?
or is it the gearbox, or other.

Espace, because it's worth it!

It could be one or more of the driveshaft CV joints that are knocking Jonathan but it could also be a number of other things.
  • Engine/Gearbox mounting rubbers on their way out
  • A suspension bush or ball joint worn
  • One or both of the upper suspension leg bearings failing
  • Clutch spring failure
  • Gearbox problem

The best thing is to get the front of the car up on axle stands and check the CV joints, suspension components and engine/gearbox mounts first before panicking about the gearbox or clutch.

hi there, thanks for the advice,
the noise is worse now it sounded like a wheel baering but that was ok.
i think i found out what it is,
my steering wheel is straight one moment when i go sraight, and the next moment i am going straight and the wheel is at 11 o clock or 1 o clock so that could be it.

Hi
Check your front stut top bearings and springs as well as the other suspension parts in the last reply
Exhaust mount below gearbox has not broken also check the exhaust where it goes through the rear chassis as they can touch. I cut a rubber hose and feed it around the hole radius.
also one of my rear gearbox mount brackets snapped.
The roll pins  also snap in the prop shafts.
Hope this helps

I recently had a bad knocking as per your description.
It turned out that 1 of the engine mountings was broken so I changed both engine mountings.
Still had the noise, it was a bit baffling.
Went under the gear box and found that the bolts securing the gearbox mounts to the gear box were soo loose that they were close to falling out.
There was no aparents reason it had happened so I jacked the weight off of the mounts, tightened them up.
Instant cure.
May not be your problem but worth a look.
