Right.. I'm refurbishing the gearbox from Waldo's spare parts car.
It has been sitting for QUITE some time, so half of the gears, the part that has been above the oil in the gearbox has some corrosion on them...

Anyone know if I should remove it with some very fine sandpaper?.. leave it to grind off by itself?.. or discard the box entirely?

Further .. how much clearance should there be between the synchroes and the gears?? the ones in the box seems to be in good shape.

I agree with Oskar,  clean using electrolysis and then just check to make sure that there is nothing still standing proud of the main tooth section; if there is you can clean any proud material with wet and dry paper but try and avoid this if possible. Do not throw the box away!
