Interesting way to distribute the load when changing the front suspension. The torsion bars normally transfer the load to where they are mounted in the main chassis frame, which is the reason the people with coil-over conversions might run into problems with chassis flexing.

I wonder if the torsion bars on this car were retained, and the horizontal coil-overs only were additive ? - however judging from the amount of reinforcing it might be a complete conversion.

I agree with Hans that it is astonishing anybody could leave such an obvious classic/famous car outside to rot - but at least it is now in good hands. I look as much forward to follow this project as anyone here.

Krede, there is a photo of the engine bay, it's the one with dual dampers/coils either side. The engine is fitted longitudally on these cars, with a shaft passing on the right side of the engine to drive the front differential.

Lennart, my guess is that the suspension arrangement is chosen for ease maintenance. Suspension is more or less everything on a rally car, and by putting everything inboard on top, you have very easy access to making adjustments etc. My guess is that they have discareded the torsion bars.

But I was a bit surprised to see that the original front suspension arms (at least the top ones) have been kept - since the car is more or less completely custom anyway, why not extend the a-arms, which generally lowers the roll centre? The a-arms on Murena are only this short because they come from a front engined car... The rear looks like the trailing arms have been discarded and the entire rear suspension is custom.

There's a sister car to Olczyk's in the museum in Romoratin, but it's covered up so the internals aren't visible Sad

Having had a closer look at the picture of the engine bay (picture 004). I actualy spotted the drive shaft takeing part of the power to the front whels. It can be seen a little to the rigth for the center of the pictur.

is this the same powertrain that was in the citroen bx 4wd rally?

love this car.  And the pushrods on the a-arms are nice.  maybe its a easy fit?
