Am I right in thinking that some cars have a metal fitting in the passenger glove box/parcel shelf, if so what is it for, is it just to stop your papers falling out or what?

The later models have a metal part in the shelf to prevent things from falling out. It bassically is a simple iron bar with a elastic band to keep it up. This way you can push the iron bar down if you want.

In my opinion a pretty useless thing... But maybe other people find it handy.

My Murena doesn't have the bar and my sunglasses case always falls out when I floor the accelerator.  Wink So I want one. Grin

Try some of the black non-slip mesh. Ideal for stopping things sliding about.

Or don't press so hard!

So is it "fixed" to the shelf or simply just sat in the groove? Items to have most things stashed in a bag behind the drivers seat as I tired of everything falling out!

It is fixed beneath the shelf and with an elastic band it stays up. The elastic band on my car is broken so it doesn't stay up anymore at the moment.

Here's some pics of the "rack" so you will get a better idea of how it works. Please do not look at the dust etc. because the car haven't been used for over two years now.....

I think the anti-slip mat might be an even better solution than this rack.. Wink

Thanks for the pictures, it's really interesting to note just how many differences many of our Murenas have! Oh and that's not dust! I've been working on my spares car which is disgusting! When looking under the seats and have found lots of coins, it's just a shame neither the English or French money I've pulled out is legal tender any more!
