Sticky gear shift

My Murena is developing a problem where the gear stick, sticks when I pull it to the left.
Upon investigation, the selector arm that goes into the top of the 'box goes up and down, when the stick is moved left and right. So, when the stick is moved left, the selector arm stays up and only goes down when the stick is physically moved across to the right.
Is it simply a matter of lubrication, or is it symptomatic of something dying in my gearbox?
Assuming any of the above makes sense...

The problem is probably here.
I pressed in new bushes, and it fixed the problem.
Shifter comes back to neutral position after replacing it.

Disconnect the rod from the forward crank arm on the gearbox which is probably seizing up? Remove the crank arm by uncrewing the retaining srew. Clean the assembly and grease well with copperslip and re-assemble and see what happens.

P.S. I have just about recovered now from last thursday at Brands. I was completely shattered and aching on friday.

Don't suppose you fancy a job do you Graham?
I have that bush from Simon, but my garage is out of action for a couple of weeks and the problem is getting worse. The kids have so many things at weekends these days I just can't find the time to work on my cars!
I can bring it round to your house any day.

Yes I could sort that out for you. Next week sometime would be O.K.

There is a good chance that it is the transfer arm in Oetker's pictures that sticks.
If you find that lubricating it (WD40 spray) does not help, then check if the return spring in the gear box has broken, or the seal on the selector rod itself is sticking. See the spring in the photo below.
Getting that bushing off the gearbox can be a challenge. See my post about the problems I have had with it:

Good luck.

====================================
The old bushing in the transfer-arm is made from plastic.
It can be misformed.
In my case lubricating didn't help, I had to replace it.
Simon has aftermarket brons bushes for it.

All beautifully sorted by Graham. New transfer arm with brass bushes and a replacement cup on the long front-to-back arm.
Its now just as Matra intended, but next year it will get Graham's own improvements...
