Hot summer and startup on the AC system gives a very bad smell on many JE's - and so have been the case on our 24v since we bought it.
But now i was determined to fix this problem, and the solution with TUNAP Contra sept Disinfection Cleaner for Air Conditioners ++ seems to have done the trick! Hopefully it will be good for a long time now.

I created a post on my forum with some description and photos of the operation - the topic is in norwegian but the pictures pretty much tells the story.

Hi Tom,

Nice warning against driving the car to a police alcohol test just after the treatment  (as the whole car smells like a distillery for a while). :-)

That last picture with the can in the car - is that simply releasing its contents while the AC runs on recirculation or something along those lines ?

Hi – It’s a great guide!

But when spraying foam into and on the defroster, what happens after the foam starts to “drip”? –Where are the “draining holes”? - Where the water / foam is able to get out?

Thinking of checking the draining hole before spraying the foam. – I once had a stopped draining hole on my Mitsubishi… Not nice!)

Where are the intake located in the cabin when using “recycle”?

the foam / liquid driped out of the fan motor housings on both sides when I did this treatment. I may have used more foam than necessary though. Most dripped out a drain tube under the car.
There wasn't much that dripped out on the floor, as long as you pull the rubber floor mats high up towards the front of the car, it shouldn't make any mess.
I never did manage to locate exactly where the intake for recirculation is.

I have just cleaned my defroster. Unfortunately, no shops were open today, but the weather was fine.

I used a product called “Rodalon” which is made for disinfect and remove of bacteria in household. First I “soaped” the defroster from the inside, second I spray all of the vents.  I used about 3 dl of my homemade “Rodalon-mix”

After 15 minutes, I started the engine, and sprayed about 2 dl of my mix into both the air intakes after I had removed the cabin filter. The air on was on, and the ventilator on full speed.

I didn’t like what I was seeing. Green “dust” was blowing out in the cabin…
Totally I used around 7 dl of my homemade mixture. Totally cost around 8 Dkr, or 1 eur.
No dripping either inside or outside the car.
It took around 30 min.

Tomorrow I hope to smell a difference.
