Can anyone help...? My 2.2S suffers the usual rotten trailing arms (spectacular holes all over it after sandblasting!) so I bought an expensive repro part from a famous Matra specialist in Germany. The alignment of damper bracket and ARB bracket was no good so I sent it back. I decided to then order an even more expensive one from another famous specialist, this time in France, who say that they have the original Matra tooling/jigs. Five months later, I had an e-mail yesterday to say that they think their supplier who makes the parts has "disappeared"  Cry. Does anyone have a RH trailing arm for a 2.2 in servicable condition? Or even a rough one for repair? And has anyone had a refabrication or repair done that they would recommend? Thanks in advance!

I suppose the German was Simon, the French was Politecnic.

Have you tried Carjoy yet?

www.carjoy.nl

They have rear trailing arms in the webshop list. 450 Euro each.
Or check the ebay for a used one.

Try the above. This car is in a breakers yard in Manchester in the U.K. Looks like the trailing arms are there as the wheels are still fitted. Just bought both wing mirror assemblies myself for £20:00.  Grin

Thank you both for your replies. According to CarJoy, the repro trailing arms they sell are also supplied to the German supplier I mentioned so assuming the alignment issue is with the jigs or tools, they must also be incorrect. (If anyone has successfully fitted the CarJoy part and found the damper and ARB installs correctly, please let me know).
I also spotted the car in the Manchester breakers but according to them it is a 1.6 which has different trailing arms. Sad

Looks like the damper bracket is incorrect on this one too. Here are my 1.6 pictured. I'm not sure if they are the same as 2.2 but they definately do not run parallel to the arm.

I must correct. Not the damper bracket but the anti-roll bar bracket is offset. I know the 1.6 differs from the 2.2 but I think that Luke is refering to the ARB.

Thanks to all for replies and support. I will contact Jurgen, I think, if I can recover my old part from France  Angry

The German eBay part looks good but its impossible to tell from the single photo how good the part is. I've asked the seller for more info....

Finally, Titus, I had issues with the damper bracket alignment to the main structure and the ARB bracket, the damper bracket being the more serious. It was so bad I don't think I would have got the bolt through both ends of the bracket with the damper bush in place!

Luke,

Sorry to hear of your problems. But I must disagree with you saying the German ebay one looks ok. If you look carefully at my pictures, and assuming the alignment of the 2.2 brackets are the same as the 1.6 then these arms are incorrect. Looking again, even the damper brackets are not correct.

I need a right hand arm. I was going to order one from the French supplier but know you had problems with the hubs being lost. Were you ordering their standard 2.2 arm or the molybdenum/more expensive one? They list the molyb. 2.2 as in stock so if you ordered this why did you need to send hubs? The 1.6 molyb's are also listed in stock and from the picture the brackets look correct. But if you have had problems I will be most unlikely to order.

Thanks.

Hello again, I ordered a reinforced Molybdenum steel one. I can only speak for my experience of course but I was told that it was essential to send my old unit in because the hub has to be reused and that a refabrication takes 6 weeks. I sent my old arm back in May and I'm still waiting.... If you are buying one of their standard 1.6 items from stock you might be alright but I'd recommend you check first.

Hi Luke,

Well that doesn't make sense, does it? If the item is listed as in stock then it should be in stock and the hubs are a part exchange. Most disappointing to hear you have been hard done by. I will not be ordering from them. But that means I am off the road until I can source. If you are looking into the 'Jurgen' route then I would like to suggest we combine efforts.

Just to add to the German ebay arm. The 1.6 arms are welded down the middle which look very similar to the ones pictured. Are they 2.2s? The following pictures show my 1.6 brackets on the arms (pre refurb). One has now failed Angry

The first picture is of a 2.2 trailing arm. If you take a look at the pictures in my post on new style trailing arms, you can see that the shape matches the ebay picture. In my post you can see that the original arm has welding seams along the edges, because it was reinforced with an extra layer of metal. The top picture is of a repro arm that used one layer stronger steel, thus no extra weld, but only along the edges. My post is here: http://www.matrasport.dk/forum/index.php/topic,1520.0.html

Looking at the picture, the German one may be correct.  It is the position of the brackets relative to the axes of the mountings and the hub that is important.  I think it just looks wrong because the shape of the arm is different.  If the hubs have to be re-used, would it be worth buying the arms from the scrap Murena on eBay just for the hubs?  I think the hubs are the same on the 1.6 and 2.2.

I have now tried Jurgen. Very helpful but he can no longer supply. He suggests the Danish clubs. Does anyone have the contact for this. Many thanks.
