The xenon dipped headlight recently failed on my Renault Grand Espace 2.2dci Privelidge. I took it to the main dealer and was told that it wasnt the headlight, it was the discharge unit that had failed, and this would cost me over £800 to have replaced. I would like to know if it is possible to have it repaired, or to fit a second hand unit from another renault model, eg; a Laguna? If not does anybody know of anywhere that would sell a non genuine one?

What a crazy price!!!

AFAIK Xenon bulbs are almost the same, so a discharge unit from another car or even an aftermarket set MAY work... The critical part is to keep the automatic level adjustment.

But I can't claim I'm an expert on this.

Did you take it to a Local (Non Dealer) Renault specialist they usually know all the tricks

Why not try a local motor factors? There are many, many, aftermarket parts available at a fraction of the Dealer prices, I find it difficult to understand how they can justify those prices except they are STUPID enough to get rippedoff in the extreme?

Or Try www.gsfcarparts.co.uk who will work mail order and www.eurocarparts.com

Best of luck

Tried www.gsfcarparts.co.uk, and have got a quote for a new headlight for £200. Which is a lot better than £800. So I think I'l go for that.
Cheers Jay
Does anyone know if they are easy to fit yourself?
