carburator, how to renovate
June 22, 2007, 07:58:33 AM
Hi all

I have just received a carburator renovator set from Simon-Auto.
But no user guide  :-\

Anyone tried this ?
Is it just taken all apart and exhange gaskets, O-rings etc. and then assemble it againg.

Is there any adjustements needed afterwards ?

Regards
Henrik

Yes, take it apart and wash everything. Replace anything you can gaskets, O-rings, filters etc) and reassemble.
It will almost certainly need adjusting afterwards, idle mixture etc.

Best to get it running as best you can then take it to a garage with an exhaust gas analyser for fine tuning.

As long you are methodical and clean, carbs aren't too hard to service.
Tips from me:
- Don't overtighten the carb onto it's base as you may distort the body.
- check the throttle spindles for play. If these are wobbly, no amount of refurb or adjustment will make it work well.
- seek out every little filter and clean/replace. There should be many!

Which model carb is it? I may have some documentation on it at home.

Hope t his helps.

Antony

I have it all documented on my homepage:

http://dinsen.net/murena/carburettor/

Changing gaskets isn't difficult, but note that the O-ring supplied for the accelerator pump fuel channel IS NOT CORRECT. It should be a 2x2 mm rubber O-ring. The one supplied has a far too large radius and will not seal.

Okay then...
It should be a simple operation, and then to the garage adjusting idle and CO.

Thank

Henrik, let us know how it progresses!
Do you have the correct o-ring?
