Murena and Multipla - I like it 3 abreast!

« on: August 01, 2007, 07:32:03 pm »

I am missing the wedges from one of the rear calipers of my Murena 2.2. If anyone has some spare ones, including the little R clips that retain them, I would be very grateful to buy them.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers,

Antony

I know for a fact that Will Falconer/MatraMagic have these on stock, as I just bought some.

No, he has just run out of stock, thanks to you!!
He sources his from Simon-auto, who has also run out of stock and is thinking of remanufacturing them.

I am going to have to try scrap yards!

oups - I'm terribly sorry.

For the same reason, I should have one spare set (meaning two wedges, i.e. for one side only) somewhere, so if you can't find any, let me know.

If you have a spare set, I would gladly buy them off you, as I am becoming desperate.
I am reduced to searching round scrap yards for similar looking brakes. Something I am not looking forward to.

Name your price!

Try looking for an old Renault - anything pre-1980 is worth a look.  They used a similar set up only at the front end.  Failing that it is older Fiats and Lancias with rear discs.  If you find any hens' teeth while you are there let us know! Wink

Meanwhile I will have a rummage in my bits box to see if i can find any.  I kept the calipers from the Bagheera I broke for spares but I am not so sure about the wedges.

Good luck.

David

ps if you are really desperate and need to get your murena back on the road I can let you have the ones from my murena as the trailing arms are about to come off for welding and my newly refurbed rear calipers are staying indoors until the work has been done.  I would need to get replacements back eventually - but not for at least a couple of months

That's a very kind offer Lewisman and I'll bear it in mind. I have my local garage scouring scrapyards for me and a firm called Brakes International in Rochdale scouring their shelves. The guy there was very knowledgable and reckoned the wedges are the same as FIAT Unos. We'll see.

I'm sure I'll find lots eventually, I just want them now!

Cheers,

Right, those two avenues turned out to be dead ends!
The scrapyard was utterly useless and Brakes International couldn't have got it more wrong if they tried!!

I'm now desperate, so if you can find your spare 2 wedges Lennart, I will gladly have them off you. Failing that, I'd like to borrow yours Lewisman.

I'm want to take my Murena to a local car show this weekend, but after that I plan to send my calipers off to Roy for a refurb. I'm bound to source some wedges by then, but I need some now!

Any help gratefully received.

Antony.

If you want mine let me know and I will stick them in the post.

You should have my e-mail adress from the time you were trying to work out how to get one of my alloys.

ok, I will have a good look.
Problem is twofold:
1) My garage is a mess - Roy can confirm, as he has recently seen it. When I moved overhere I simply piled all my workshop boxes (and that was a surprising lot of them) into the so-called garage (which barely will hold a Smart)

2) in a few weeks time I will be moving house, so I'm busy sorting things out. HOWEVER when I eventually move the contents of the garage, I should have a chance of finding the wedges.  This will be mid September.

Have you tried all the sparepart sources ?

Will you get a triple garage then, for all your cars and stuff? Wink

YYYEEESSSS!!!! You beauty!

I think I have sourced a kit from a Lotus specialist. The same Bendix calipers were used on an Esprit 2.2, apparently, and I have found a firm that has one kit left!
He upgrades lots of Esprits with better calipers (his words) and has lots of these calipers available, so if anybody wants some used Caliper parts, try PNM engineering and speak to Peter Musgrove, on 0151 6306101.

Credit must also be given to Mr Gillard for sourcing a kit from Renault that covers both calipers.

I got his aswell, so I have more wedges than I need now!
