Can anybody tell me if there is a K&n or similar replacement available ?

And also.. am I right in assuming that the entire end of the airbox is part of the filter?.

Yes that is correct.  (I don't know about the K&N as I've never been interested in them)

Me neither.. but thought I might give them a go... but then again.. perhaps not.

Since the date for fitting the injection/throttle bodies have been pushed to the 27 NEXT month, I have decided to build an airbox drawing through the filter "barrel" like on the standard "S"
I will miss the "open air" inlet "RoooOOar" of the bolt on filters I use now... but.. I am concerned that the inlet air the engine gets at low (town) speed is far too hot... so the bolt on's  have to go Sad

At speed I am still not convinced that there is a problem... but as soon as there is no airflow, the enginebay DO get very hot indeed!!, and I think that this should not be disregarded as a possible and very REAL fire hazard either... ESPECIALLY if the engine is fitted with sidedraft carbs as they tend to give of lots of fumes as the fuel in the barrels heat up (at least mine do)

Anyway.. I seem to recall something about the murena using the same airfilters as another car... pug 205?.. is there some truth to this?

Yes the standard Murena air filter is quite common - it was fitted to many Simca/Talbots including the Horizon, the 1307/8, the Tagora, and some 205's as you said.  There are probably many others.

Hmmm.. seems like the filter is only used for "small" engines.... I find that a bit concerning ..
